Lifebank™ is powered by Celularity™, the first company to recognize the human placenta as an untapped-yet-abundant source of stem cells to treat disease in a naturally potent manner.
Whereas other stem cell banks can only store cord blood and cord tissue, Lifebank™ has the unique expertise to also retrieve and store placental blood and placental tissue. It is therefore the only company that can offer the most choice to your patients:
- Donate postpartum biomaterials for the benefit of others.
- Bank the maximum quantity of newborn stem cells for private use in the future.
- Store the cord blood for private use while donating the placenta for the greater good.
Adding placental stem cells to one’s private collection brings numerous tangible benefits:
- Placental blood stem cells are younger and more primitive than the stem cells found in bone marrow or peripheral blood and can therefore multiply with ease.
- Many studies have found that the greater the quantity of CD34+ hematopoietic stem cells available during transplant, the higher the probability of survival in transplant patients.
- Treatments using cord blood stem cells from a related match are significantly more successful than treatments using stem cells from an unrelated donor.
- By banking cord and placenta tissue as well, your patients can have access to Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) that are foundational to the potential of regenerative medicine in the future.
On March 28, 2008, we were able to share with the world one of our joyful moments. Quentin, a then-4-year-old pediatric patient with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL), received the world’s first combined cord and placental stem cell transplant under the care of Lolie C. Yu, M.D., Professor of Pediatrics and Director of the Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) Program at LSUHSC & Children’s Hospital.
We welcome healthcare professionals to join us on the mission of storing newborn stem cells to help save lives like Quentin. Whether you collect for the benefit of your patients or for our donation program, you serve a critical role in improving health outcomes with every delivery.
